Roadtripme at Montañano: off-road days and wild neighbours

Rutted tracks beneath the tyres, rooftop tents overlooking the hills, and the occasional sniffing visitor beside the vehicles at night. Roadtripme’s visit to Montañano brought off-road driving and wildlife together in a way that continued long after the engines stopped.

Set in the Spanish Pre-Pyrenees near Jaca, in Huesca, Aragon, Montañano provided the setting for a memorable stay: exploring the estate by 4×4, camping at different locations and heading out on foot to look for wildlife.

Meet Roadtripme

Founded by Pieter and Sanne, Belgian company Roadtripme organises guided, multi-day trips for small groups travelling in their own 4×4 vehicles. Their activities also include off-road training, team building and the rental of an equipped vehicle with a rooftop tent. Their approach brings driving and outdoor living together—an ideal match for this visit to Montañano.

Terrain that makes you choose your line

Montañano’s terrain gave the group plenty to work with. Uneven forest tracks, exposed stones and deeply worn sections made the driving an engaging part of the stay.

The photographs tell that story clearly: vehicles spread along a woodland slope, wheels meeting different heights and rough ground demanding attention. This is the kind of terrain where line choice matters, where ground clearance becomes relevant and where a measured approach is part of the enjoyment.

For guests who enjoy exploring with their own vehicles, the estate offered a setting in which the journey itself became an activity.

Rooftop tents in the middle of the experience

At the end of the driving, the group remained close to the landscape. Guests slept in rooftop tents at different locations across the estate, bringing their own familiar way of travelling into Montañano’s surroundings.

One photograph captures it particularly well: the vehicles and open tents stand on a rise, while a deer grazes in the foreground. Camp and wildlife share the same scene.

Occasionally, guests were woken by the sound of a deer or wild boar sniffing around the vehicles. Those unexpected visits added another layer of excitement to the stay. Even from inside a rooftop tent, the surrounding wildlife remained very much part of the experience.

Exploring on foot, sharing a game barbecue

There was time to leave the vehicles behind, too. Walks through the estate took the group into the woodland to look for wildlife, shifting the focus from choosing a driving line to watching the surroundings.

These outings brought another perspective to the same terrain. Tracks explored by vehicle became places to slow down, observe and discover on foot.

A game barbecue added a shared meal to the programme, bringing everyone together between the driving, camping and wildlife outings. It was this combination that gave the visit its character: practical off-road adventure alongside the quieter moments of being outdoors.

Thank you, Pieter and Sanne

A warm thank you to Pieter and Sanne from Roadtripme, and to everyone who joined them at Montañano.

The rough tracks, rooftop camps and unexpected animal neighbours made this a visit to remember. A stay where off-road driving and wildlife were woven into the same experience—from the first stretch of track to the sounds around the tents.
